One day in the summer of 1985, when his granddaughter Mian Mian had her hair done in many braids, Deng seized some of them playfully, saying, "Now I've got you!" Thus he turned to a joke the phrase used during the "cultural revolution", when someone found a pretext for accusing someone else of being anti-Party and anti-socialist. But, nothing daunted, Deng waged a firm struggle against Jiang Qing and her followers in those days.
